In the summer of 2014, I spent nearly two months with a candidate for the Indian Parliamentary Elections, photographing his activites as he campaigned to be elected as a Member of Parliament.
Rather than show the public & often visible side, this series of images is my effort to showcase the life and emotions of a politician. To show that there is more to them than the facade we are shown in the regular media outlets.
Finding a candidate for my series was a tough challenge. I approached many potential candidates and spoke to them in detail about my project and intentions but all of them were reluctant to let me photograph their daily life. To be honest, this was not a surprise but I was unwilling to give up.
After a lot of research and several phone calls, I managed to meet Jayadev Galla, the Telugu Desam Party Candidate for Guntur Constituency. I was given roughly 30 secs to pitch my idea to him so I quickly showed him some reference images, expalained the concept in brief and much to my relief, he said yes almost immediately. And thus began my summer.
All images are unstaged and were shot in ambient light with a Canon 5D Mark III & Canon 35mm f/1.4L lens.
