I turn 22 today. To me, that’s old. The party years are over, it’s time to start being responsible. I have never dared to fantasize about life beyond 21. I always thought that by the time 21 years had passed, my life would be settled. I would be rich, famous and married. That plan has clearly had it’s own ups and downs, but more of the latter. I am now entering uncharted territory.
Perhaps for the first time in my recent memory, I had an extremely civilized mini celebration involving just a few friends and a bottle of good Single Malt Whisky. It was quite unlike the past few years which saw their own share of excessive consumption of alcohol with large group of friends. While I certainly enjoyed the past birthdays tremendously, this change of pace has signified that it is time to move on from the extravagant celebrations into something more ‘grown up’. I am shifting to a new phase in life, whether I like it or not. Having said that, I am not quite sure what the next phase holds for me. My imaginations stretches to the end of the planet and beyond. And while they say the future belongs to those who dare to dream, it really belongs to those that also get off their bottom to execute their ideas!

My day was fairly quiet after a relatively exciting night yesterday. I watched classic Tamil movies on TV, listening to old Hindi songs on YouTube, cleaned up my room, and finally, towards the end of the evening, went to photograph the Bonalu Celebrations that were taking place close to my house. The celebrations were extravagant to say the least and I managed to capture a few exciting moments. The atmosphere was buzzing with foot tapping music, bright psychedelic neon lights and thousands of people. It kept our spirits high while we squeezed through tight crowds to find the perfect angle. Following the shoot, we headed to our favourite cafe to have Haleem and Thums Up. An apt end to the day.
